Alexandria Montessori Elementary School was founded in 1981 and first served students ages six through twelve. In 1989 a Middle School program was added changing the ages served through fourteen. Our school is comprised of three classroom environments for three separate age groups: six to nine year olds, nine to twelve year olds and twelve to fourteen year olds.

Multi-age groupings allow the younger child to benefit from the knowledge and behavior of the older child. Older students benefit as well by developing leadership skills and serving as academic mentors. The older student reinforces their knowledge by assisting the younger student when needed.

There are other benefits of multi-age groupings of students. Having the same teachers for three years allows the teacher to develop a keen knowledge of the child, his/her strengths and weakness. The teacher and child know where they left off academically from year to year.
